Offshore wind corner

In Q2 of 2024, Lamprell successfully completed its latest offshore wind project, Moray West, by delivering the final batch of transition pieces (TPs) to their destination in Scotland. All 62 TPs have been safely handed over to our client Ocean Winds. The team delivered this project on schedule and within budget, with no lost time incidents – a testament to their operational efficiency. This project, which kicked off in 2022, included the construction of 60 wind turbine generator TPs and two offshore substation TPs. The successful completion of Moray West highlights the capabilities of Lamprell’s serial production line, which was specifically built to meet the increasing needs of the offshore wind sector. For an in-depth retrospective of this landmark project, please refer to our article in the Q1 edition of Lamprelltimes.

Oil & gas corner

Lamprell delivered its second jackup drilling rig, Kingdom 2, for the Saudi market in Q2 2024. Kingdom 2 marks the 30th jackup drilling unit constructed by Lamprell to date, reinforcing our expertise in building offshore rigs. This key milestone comes shortly after a naming ceremony was held at our quayside in our Hamriyah facility in May, where we were honoured to host executive management members from International Maritime Industries (IMI) and ARO Drilling. This project is significant for ARO Drilling, as they aim to expand their fleet by 20 rigs over the next decade. For IMI, the event solidifies a partnership with ARO Drilling and their shared commitment to advancing the Saudi energy sector. As a proud shareholder in IMI, Lamprell is committed to developing Saudi Arabia’s maritime industry through our technical partnerships and future rig construction projects.

Lamprell’s rig refurbishment and land rig services divisions continue to operate robustly. In the second quarter, the rig refurbishment team completed a substantial upgrade for a major client, with the rig departing our UAE-based Hamriyah facility in early Q3. Additionally, another prominent client awarded our land rig services division a project to design and manufacture two BOP (Blowout Preventer) transportation skids. This project is advancing smoothly, with engineering, procurement, and fabrication activities on schedule. Concurrently, we are conducting miscellaneous API mast inspections for other key clients and actively pursuing bids for various other upgrade and refurbishment opportunities. Notably, both divisions achieved a TRIR of zero for the first half of 2024, marking a significant safety milestone.
