Overall purpose of role

Plan, distribute, monitor, and check work activities for the development of Naval Architecture (NA) Design and Construction drawings. Supervise a team of Draftsmen, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely delivery of design outputs. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating drafting tasks and resources effectively. Prepare detailed drawings and generate Material Take-Offs (MTOs) based on basic design drawings, sketches, or input from Designers and Engineers. Ensure all deliverables meet project specifications, classification requirements, and industry standards.

Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities

  • Act as a checker on all design-related deliverables to ensure accuracy, clarity, and completeness.
  • Work on 3D models and/or 2D drawing packages following drafting standards, maintaining clarity, quality, and detail.
  • Perform periodic model reviews to assess the level of content and participate in 3D model review sessions as required.
  • Review designs for overall completeness, safety considerations, access and egress, material handling compliance, maintenance, and operability.
  • Prepare Material Take-Offs (MTOs).
  • Perform design functions of prior levels as needed.
  • Review and update discipline-specific design guidelines and standards.
  • Estimate the number of drawings required for design deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain the drawing list throughout the project.
  • Gather and review applicable codes, standards, and vendor requirements to define installation requirements, and communicate these to the design team.
  • Review and comment on vendor drawings to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Propose design improvements and integrate lessons learned from previous projects.
  • Analyze options to optimize project cost and schedule.
  • Support project closeout activities, including preparation of as-built documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with client specifications and company requirements.
  • Coordinate project activities across multiple office locations.
  • Apply knowledge of safety requirements during field assignments.
  • Support bids and proposals by providing relevant design input.
  • Provide design inputs and prepare key documents such as Fire and Safety Plans, General Arrangement Drawings, Room Layouts, Helideck Marking Plans, Hull and Cantilever Loadout Arrangements, Vessel Docking Plans, Cantilever Load Testing Arrangements, Lifeboat Launching Arrangements, Anchoring, Mooring and Towing Arrangements, Bulkhead and Deck Classification for Fire Protection, and Watertight/Weathertight Plans.
  • Ensure compliance with HSES (Health, Safety, Environment, and Security) policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all applicable information security policies and procedures.

Attainment

  • Minimum Education: ITI in Draftsmanship or Diploma in any Engineering Discipline.
  • Minimum Experience: 5–7 years in the design and construction of offshore/onshore oil & gas facilities or drilling rigs.
  • Software Proficiency: Experienced in AutoCAD, PDMS, Aveva, or equivalent 2D/3D design tools.
  • Technical Expertise: Skilled in Naval Architectural/Marine Drafting, including preparation of General Arrangement Drawings, Safety Plans, and related documentation.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines.
