Overall purpose of role
Responsible for planning, distributing, monitoring, and reviewing work activities related to the development of design and construction drawings for structural and outfitting works, including foundations, platforms, helidecks, and living quarters. Supervise a team of draftsmen and ensure the timely and accurate delivery of drawings across multiple projects. Prepare detailed structural drawings and material take-offs based on basic design drawings or sketches provided by designers and engineers, ensuring alignment with project specifications and quality standards.
Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities
- Act as checker for design-related deliverables, ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with project standards.
- Develop and maintain 3D models and/or 2D drawing packages in accordance with drafting standards, ensuring clarity and completeness of details.
- Conduct periodic model reviews to verify content, completeness, and adherence to design intent.
- Review designs for safety, accessibility, materials handling, maintenance, and operability requirements.
- Prepare and verify Material Take-Offs (MTOs).
- Review and update discipline-specific design guidelines, standards, and best practices.
- Estimate drawing quantities and manage drawing lists for design deliverables.
- Gather, review, and interpret applicable codes, standards, and vendor requirements; communicate installation requirements to the design team.
- Review and provide comments on vendor drawings and technical submissions.
- Recommend design improvements and document lessons learned to enhance future projects.
- Evaluate design options to optimize cost efficiency and project schedules.
- Oversee project closeout activities, including preparation of as-built documentation.
- Ensure all designs comply with client specifications and company requirements.
- Coordinate and align design activities across multiple office locations to maintain consistency and efficiency.
- Apply knowledge of safety requirements during field assignments and design activities.
- Provide support for bids and proposals as needed.
- Ensure adherence to HSES (Health, Safety, Environment, and Security) policies and procedures.
- Comply with all applicable information security policies and protocols.
Attainment
Education:
ITI Draftsmanship or Diploma in any Engineering discipline, preferably Civil Engineering.
Experience:
Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in offshore, onshore, oil and gas facilities, or drilling rig design and construction environments.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in AutoCAD for 2D drafting and experienced in 3D modeling using software such as ShipConstructor, AVEVA Marine (Hull), PDMS, TEKLA, or equivalent tools for structural and outfitting works.
