Overall purpose of role
This role is responsible for the timely preparation of accurate, comprehensive, and professional base cost estimates for company tenders related to refurbishment, repair, and new-build projects. It is a key position within the Lamprell Proposals Group, underscoring the importance of delivering precise cost estimates that form the foundation of tender pricing and contribute to Lamprell’s ongoing commercial success.
Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities
- Review Invitation to Tender (ITT) documents to understand, analyze, and accurately assess all requirements.
- Prepare accurate and detailed first-principles base cost estimates in a timely manner, using appropriate estimating techniques to accommodate varying tender complexities, formats, and client expectations. Estimates must be well-structured and supported by technical data to enable clear review by the Proposals team and Lamprell Management, including facilitating any required revisions.
- Distribute ITT documentation promptly to relevant internal departments and coordinate with them to ensure all inputs align with ITT requirements.
- Utilize relevant historical data to enhance the accuracy of cost estimates.
- Prepare clear and concise technical clarification requests for client communication during the tender period; raise commercial clarifications as needed.
- Support the Procurement Group and Proposals team in obtaining accurate and timely quotations from material suppliers, equipment vendors, and subcontractors.
- Prepare appropriate technical tender qualifications for inclusion in bid submissions; commercial qualifications may also be included as necessary.
- Draft structured, professional technical supporting documents, including scopes of work and other relevant materials, for inclusion in tenders.
- Attend tender review meetings as required, both before and after tender submission.
- Conduct site inspections in coordination with the Projects team to define and quantify the scope of work, when necessary.
- Organize and file all tender-related correspondence and data systematically.
- Compile and hand over all relevant estimating data to the Projects and Contracts teams following contract award, and participate in project start-up meetings when required.
- Actively contribute as a member of the Proposals team, supporting daily operations, reporting, performance improvement initiatives, and training activities as needed.
- Adhere to all compliance and audit requirements to ensure ethical, transparent operations, and comply with all Lamprell policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Follow all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures, and cooperate with audits and inspections.
Attainment
- Assertive and polite, with strong communication skills.
- Over three years of experience in the heavy engineering industry.
- Five years of hands-on experience in an oil and gas fabrication yard.
- Holds professional qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Highly perceptive to customer and supplier behavior, with the ability to respond appropriately to various situations.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and builds strong working relationships across all levels.
- Proven aptitude for effective teamwork within oil and gas, marine, or similar engineering environments.
- Listens actively to others’ viewpoints and responds thoughtfully and logically, without relying on authority.
- Maintains composure and resilience under pressure or stressful conditions.
