Overall purpose of role

Responsible for overseeing the cost function and the CRM support team, ensuring that all commercial project-related activities are executed in compliance with company policies and procedures.

Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities

  • Accountable for the overall quality and timely delivery of cost function deliverables and for leading the cost team.
  • Responsible for personal safety and adherence to HSEQ processes, policies, and guidelines.
  • Facilitate and ensure effective communication between the cost function and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with cost function processes and regularly review them to ensure they are fit-for-purpose and aligned with project needs.
  • Prepare a budget breakdown from the Project Estimate Document (PED), review with the Projects Team, and upload into Compass.
  • Maintain Oracle systems to support cost tracking and reporting.
  • Initiate invoicing as per contract milestones or agreed payment terms, with all necessary documentation; support Finance in following up on client payments.
  • Maintain project cash flow in coordination with the Project Manager and submit updates to Finance, highlighting any major deviations from the original cash flow profile.
  • Estimate and assess the cost impact of changes; monitor actual costs of all project changes.
  • Manage the Cost Team, including their well-being, performance through My Success Plan, competency assessments, probation reviews, and absence management.
  • Compile contract cost reports across the project portfolio, including VOWD (Value of Work Done), Forecast to Go, Estimate at Completion, variance analysis, and provide meaningful commentary on variances and cash position.
  • Liaise with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and other functions to monitor activities and their impact on the project budget and phased cost forecasts.
  • Facilitate and chair internal project cost performance meetings as required.
  • Lead and manage the project cost close-out process, ensuring the project balance sheet is cleared.
  • Prepare and present commercial slides during monthly project review meetings with senior management.
  • Attend Client Project Controls monthly meetings to present the commercial status of project costs.
  • Provide updated project budgets and revenue projections for business unit budget forecasts.

Attainment

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience, preferably in major oil and gas projects.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a Lead Cost Engineer role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficient in advanced Excel, with hands-on experience in cost estimation and risk analysis software.
  • Strong understanding of project execution processes, with the ability to interpret contract terms, conditions, and specifications.
  • Well-versed in total cost management techniques and cost engineering principles.
