Overall purpose of role

Lead the project engineering team by carrying out engineering activities while demonstrating a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental responsibility. Manage multiple projects, ensuring design deliverables are completed within approved budgets and schedules, and adhere strictly to Quality Systems Procedures. Oversee the overall execution, control, reporting, and monitoring of project progress. Additionally, perform bid engineering, prepare deliverables, and estimate engineering man-hours, while mentoring junior engineers.

Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities

  • Lead Electrical and/or Instrument disciplines for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate with internal departments, clients, external agencies, auditors, and third-party organizations.
  • Conduct internal quality audits as instructed by Discipline Managers.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet contractual requirements.
  • Guide and lead the preparation of material specifications, data sheets, technical bid evaluations, activity planning, work assignments, scheduling, monitoring, and progress reporting.
  • Review and approve design bases and project-specific specifications for EPC and other projects involving basic and detailed engineering, feasibility studies, and tender document preparation.
  • Ensure accuracy of all design deliverables.
  • Prepare various engineering deliverables such as single line diagrams, P&IDs, block diagrams, schematics, sizing calculations, datasheets, equipment specifications, cause and effect diagrams, hook-ups, schedules, control and shutdown philosophies, layouts, and other Electrical, Instrumentation, and Telecom documents.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary checks.
  • Manage material engineering tasks including preparation of purchase specifications, purchase requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and vendor document reviews.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes, standards, regulations, procedures, and contracts.
  • Attend project and engineering review meetings, process and safety workshops, factory acceptance tests, and inspections as required.
  • Provide input and support to operations, commissioning, hook-up, and completions teams.
  • Manage change control and risk identification processes.
  • Identify training needs and assist the discipline manager with recruitment and training of personnel.
  • Assist in developing departmental capabilities and standardizing software, procedures, verifications, and validations.
  • Identify design improvements and lessons learned.
  • As Lead Engineer, authorized to approve drawings, documents, timesheets, and material requisitions.
  • Assist the discipline manager in establishing, monitoring, and achieving departmental key performance indicators.
  • Review bid enquiry documents, clarifications, qualifications, estimation activities, engineering deliverable lists, and engineering manhour and software estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with HSES policies and procedures as applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable information security policies and procedures.

Attainment

  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree (B.E., B.Tech, or B.S.) in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering; a Master’s degree in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering is an advantage.
  • Minimum experience: Over 10 years in offshore or onshore oil and gas facilities with a major EPC contractor and/or consultant.
  • Well-versed in engineering standards such as IEC, ISA, API, NFPA, IEEE, and client standards including Shell and Saudi Aramco.
  • Familiar with classification society rules like ABS, DNV, and GL.
  • Hands-on experience with software tools such as ETAP, InstruCalc, and InTools.
  • Skilled in preparation of specifications, technical evaluations, and vendor document reviews.
  • Experience with site deputation.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 standards.
  • Knowledgeable in API Q1, API 4F, and API 16C standards, especially when working on LRS projects.
