Overall purpose of role

Demonstrate a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental responsibility while serving as Lead Engineer for one or multiple projects, ensuring the production of design deliverables within the approved budget and schedule. Ensure all deliverables comply with contractual obligations, relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Review and approve material requisitions, data sheets, and technical bid evaluations. Coordinate effectively with other disciplines, departments, and clients to support project execution. Adhere to Quality Systems Procedures and the Lamprell Group Management System (LGMS). Take full responsibility for project execution, control, reporting, and monitoring, while providing technical guidance to team members and mentoring junior engineers and designers.

Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities

  • Lead and manage the preparation of design deliverables, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Interface with leads of other departments to incorporate up-to-date inputs from relevant disciplines.
  • Organize and manage all aspects of the workload for discipline engineers and designers within the parameters of the project schedule.
  • Oversee material engineering activities, including preparation of purchase specifications, requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and vendor document reviews.
  • Estimate manpower, plan and forecast work, and ensure effective utilization of resources, progress monitoring, and timely completion of engineering documents.
  • Ensure the application of recognized engineering practices throughout the design process.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to engineers and designers.
  • Lead all design review and 3D model review meetings.
  • Monitor and review all design changes, ensuring modifications are captured before deliverable release.
  • Take full ownership of all produced deliverables and their quality.
  • Ensure appropriate checking and review of all documents and drawings before releasing at any revision stage.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, clients, and vendors to ensure integration and alignment across the project.
  • Ensure timely receipt of vendor documentation.
  • Maintain control over the quality of engineering documents, aligned with quality assurance standards.
  • Identify design improvements and lessons learned throughout the project.
  • Keep the Head of Department informed on project progress at agreed intervals.
  • Monitor compliance of design deliverables with the project budget.
  • Conduct training and orientation sessions for engineers and designers in accordance with the Department Training Plan.
  • Identify training needs of team members and support their development.
  • Maintain, control, and monitor the Quality Assurance System.
  • Attend all QA audits related to the assigned project.
  • Assist the Engineering Department Manager in operational matters when required.
  • Approve corrective actions related to Corrective Action Requests (CARs).
  • Assist the discipline manager in achieving departmental key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable HSES policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable information security policies and procedures.

Attainment

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree (BSc/BTech) in Civil or Structural Engineering; a Master’s degree (MSc/MTech) is an advantage.
  • Minimum Experience: 10–15 years in offshore oil and gas facilities or drilling rigs with a major construction yard, EPC contractor, and/or consultant.
  • Conversant with engineering standards such as ASME, AISC, API, ASTM, BS/EN, and classification rules/regulatory requirements such as ABS, DNV, BV, CAP 437, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with structural analysis software including STAAD.Pro, SACS, ANSYS, MathCAD, and others.
  • Strong analytical background in offshore structural engineering and onshore oil and gas plant design.
  • Good understanding of floating structure behavior and analysis.
  • Working knowledge of relevant international codes and standards.
  • Skilled in the preparation of specifications, technical evaluations, and vendor documentation reviews.
  • Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in multinational and multicultural environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines.
  • Proven ability to influence and motivate teams toward continuous improvement.
  • Experience in fabrication, construction, and installation engineering of various offshore and onshore structures.
