Overall purpose of role
Manage multiple projects to ensure design deliverables are completed within the approved budget and schedule while demonstrating a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental responsibility. Ensure all deliverables meet contractual requirements and adhere to quality system procedures. Guide and lead the team in preparing various engineering deliverables, and oversee their review and approval. Coordinate effectively with other disciplines, departments, clients, classification societies, and vendors. Take responsibility for the overall execution, control, and monitoring of project activities, including reporting and progress tracking. Train and mentor team members, provide technical guidance, and support the discipline manager in managing the team, deputizing in their absence when needed. Serve as Lead Engineer for designated projects as required.
Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities
- Assist the Discipline Manager in managing the electrical discipline, including resource planning, forecasting, recruitment, work assignment, scheduling, and monitoring.
- Lead the electrical discipline in assigned projects, coordinating with internal departments, clients, and audit and inspection agencies. Carry out internal quality audits as instructed by the Discipline Manager.
- Plan activities, assign work, and monitor progress to ensure timely and accurate delivery of project objectives.
- Oversee the preparation, review, and approval of engineering deliverables such as project-specific specifications, datasheets, and drawings for EPC projects and other scopes involving basic and detailed engineering, feasibility studies, analyses, and calculations.
- Ensure the accuracy and quality of design deliverables and verify that all designs comply with relevant codes, standards, regulations, procedures, and contractual requirements.
- Participate in interdisciplinary checks and coordination activities to maintain design integrity across all disciplines.
- Perform material engineering tasks, including preparation, review, and approval of material and purchase requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and vendor document reviews.
- Ensure client technical engineering requirements are identified, understood, and met, and that the discipline fulfills all contractual obligations from an engineering standpoint.
- Review basic designs provided by third parties to confirm they meet customer performance criteria and support project and production teams by ensuring timely delivery of engineering outputs.
- Ensure design deliverables incorporate construction methods and promote efficiency.
- Manage subcontractors when engineering work is outsourced, and handle the preparation, review, and approval of bid engineering deliverables, including clarifications, qualifications, man-hour and software estimates, and risk identification.
- Provide input and support to operations, commissioning, and completions teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Take responsibility for change management and risk identification related to engineering activities.
- Identify training needs for team members, propose design improvements, and document lessons learned.
- Support the Discipline Manager in developing departmental capabilities and standardizing software, procedures, and tools.
- Assist in establishing, monitoring, and achieving departmental key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Ensure compliance with HSES policies, procedures, and all applicable information security requirements.
- Attend project and engineering review meetings, process and safety workshops, site surveys, factory acceptance tests (FATs), and inspections as required.
Attainment
- Minimum education: B.E., B.Tech., or B.S. in Electrical Engineering; a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering is an added advantage.
- Minimum experience: Over 20 years in offshore and onshore oil and gas facilities with major EPC contractors.
- Proficient in software such as ETAP; experience with PSCAD is an advantage.
- Well-versed in international engineering codes and standards, including API, BS, EN, IEC, IEEE, ISA, NACE, and NFPA, as well as client standards such as ADNOC, ARAMCO, BP, and SHELL.
- Extensive design experience in both offshore and onshore fields, with additional expertise in executing high-voltage onshore and offshore substations considered an advantage.
- Experienced in performing various electrical calculations, technical studies, and equipment selection.
