Overall purpose of role

Manage multiple projects, ensuring design deliverables are completed within the approved budget and schedule while meeting contractual requirements. Maintain a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental responsibility, and ensure adherence to quality systems and procedures. Lead and guide the team in preparing various engineering deliverables, reviewing and approving their work, and providing technical guidance. Coordinate effectively with other disciplines, departments, clients, classification societies, and vendors to achieve project objectives. Oversee the overall execution and control of projects, including reporting, monitoring, and job progress control. Train and mentor team members, assist the discipline manager in managing the department, and deputize in their absence. Act as lead engineer for specific projects as required.

Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities

  • Assist the discipline manager in managing the discipline and lead the instrumentation discipline for assigned projects. Coordinate with internal departments, clients, and audit and inspection agencies. Conduct internal quality audits as instructed by the discipline manager. Plan activities, assign work, schedule tasks, and monitor progress.
  • Prepare, review, and approve engineering deliverables, including documents, drawings, project-specific specifications, and datasheets for EPC and other projects involving basic/detail engineering, feasibility studies, and calculations. Ensure the accuracy of design deliverables and compliance with relevant codes, standards, regulations, procedures, and contract requirements. Participate in interdisciplinary checks and coordination. Handle material engineering tasks, including preparation, review, and approval of material and purchase requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and vendor document reviews. Ensure client technical requirements are understood and met.
  • Review basic designs from third parties for EPC projects to ensure they meet customer performance criteria. Support projects and production teams by providing engineering deliverables on time and ensuring constructability and efficiency in designs.
  • Manage subcontractors when engineering activities are outsourced. Prepare, review, and approve bid engineering deliverables, including clarifications, qualifications, man-hour and software estimates, and risk identification. Provide input and support to operations, commissioning, and completions teams.
  • Manage change and identify risks. Determine training needs, propose design improvements, and capture lessons learned. Assist the discipline manager in resource planning, forecasting, recruitment, work assignment, scheduling, and monitoring. Contribute to developing departmental capabilities, standardizing software and procedures, and achieving departmental KPIs. Ensure compliance with HSES policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable information security policies and procedures. Attend project and engineering review meetings, process and safety workshops, site surveys, FATs, and inspections as required.

Attainment

  • Minimum Education: B.E., B.Tech., or B.S. in Instrumentation Engineering; a Master’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering is an advantage.
  • Minimum Experience: 20+ years in offshore and onshore oil and gas facilities with a major EPC contractor.
  • Software Knowledge: Proficient in InstruCalc and SMARTPLANT Instrumentation (Intools) or AVEVA Instrumentation.
  • Control Systems Expertise: Skilled in preparing specifications for Integrated Control and Safety Systems, DCS, SCADA, PLC, RTU-based control systems, Emergency Shutdown (ESD) and Fire & Gas systems, fire alarm panels, HIPS, Hydraulic Safety Shutdown systems, Wellhead Control Panels, Tank Gauging Systems, Gas and Liquid Custody Metering Systems, MOV control systems, package equipment, and HVAC control systems, including scopes of work for modifications to existing systems and panels.
  • Telecommunication Systems Expertise: Experienced in preparing specifications for telecommunication systems, including fibre optic cabling, structured cabling, LAN, CCTV, IP/analog telephone, access control and PA/GA systems, line-of-sight, mobile, marine, GMDSS, and aeronautical radio systems.
