Overall purpose of role

The Principal Mechanical Engineer (Static Equipment) must have a minimum of 20 years of total experience, including at least 10 years as a lead in detailed, concept, or FEED engineering within the oil and gas, refinery, or petrochemical industry. This role involves leading a team of engineers and senior engineers across one or multiple projects, ensuring design deliverables are produced in accordance with contract requirements, approved budgets, schedules, and company policies and procedures.

Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities

  • Ensure compliance with HSES policies and procedures as applicable.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable information security policies and procedures.
  • Lead and own the process of preparing design deliverables with due consideration of applicable codes and standards.
  • Interface with leads of other departments to incorporate up-to-date inputs as applicable.
  • Organize and manage the workload of a team of mechanical engineers and designers within project schedule parameters.
  • Select and specify various mechanical and process-related equipment.
  • Conduct FEED and conceptual studies.
  • Perform basic engineering tasks such as reviewing process data sheets, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and equipment layouts.
  • Carry out engineering calculations for the design of pressure vessels, atmospheric storage tanks, and heat exchangers.
  • Participate in bids and proposals by obtaining cost and budget estimates for equipment and exploring alternative equipment options for optimization studies.
  • Estimate manpower requirements, plan work, forecast resources, monitor progress, and ensure timely completion of engineering documents.
  • Ensure adherence to recognized engineering practices.
  • Provide technical support to engineers and designers regarding mechanical design knowledge.
  • Lead all mechanical engineering design review meetings.
  • Monitor and review design changes.
  • Take ownership of deliverables and their quality.
  • Capture and incorporate all project-initiated changes or modifications prior to release of deliverables.

Attainment

  • Education: Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering degree in a relevant engineering discipline; Master’s degree (MSc/MTech) is an advantage.
  • Experience: Over 20 years in offshore oil and gas facilities, refineries, or petrochemicals, working with major EPC contractors and/or consultants.
