Overall purpose of role
The Senior Principal/Principal Mechanical Engineer (Rotating and Package) shall have a minimum of 20 years of total experience, including at least 10 years in a lead role in detailed, conceptual, or FEED engineering within the oil and gas, refinery, or petrochemical industries. This individual is expected to lead a team of engineers and senior engineers as the lead engineer for one or multiple projects, delivering design outputs that meet contract requirements, approved budgets, and schedules. All work shall be conducted in accordance with Lamprell policies and procedures and aligned with the Lamprell Group Management System (LGMS).
Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities
- Lead and own the preparation of design deliverables, ensuring full compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Interface with leads of other departments to incorporate up-to-date inputs and maintain cross-disciplinary alignment.
- Organize and manage all aspects of workload for a team of mechanical engineers and designers within project schedule parameters.
- Select and specify a variety of mechanical and process-related equipment during FEED and conceptual studies.
- Perform basic engineering reviews of process data sheets, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment layouts, and related documents.
- Support bids and proposals by obtaining cost and budgetary estimates for equipment and exploring alternative equipment options for optimization studies.
- Estimate manpower requirements, plan and forecast work, ensure effective manpower utilization, monitor progress, and ensure adherence to scheduled engineering document completion.
- Ensure application of recognized engineering practices throughout all project phases.
- Provide technical guidance and support to engineers and designers regarding mechanical design expertise.
- Lead all mechanical engineering design review meetings and oversee monitoring and review of design changes.
- Take ownership of all deliverables produced and ensure their quality.
- Document and incorporate all project-intimated changes or modifications prior to release of deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable HSES policies and procedures.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant information security policies and procedures.
Attainment
- Education: BSc/BE degree in a relevant engineering discipline; MSc/MTech degree is an advantage.
- Experience: Over 20 years in offshore oil and gas facilities, refinery, and petrochemical industries with major EPC contractors and/or consultants.
- Proven experience in preparing specifications, data sheets, material and purchase requisitions, technical evaluations, vendor documentation review, design basis development, attending FAT, site visits, and assisting in construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment.
- Extensive experience working with various rotating equipment, including centrifugal pumps, compressors, fire water pumps, reciprocating pumps, diaphragm pumps, fans and blowers, chemical injection packages, submersible pumps, air coolers, DG sets, pedestal cranes, gas dehydration and sweetening packages, electro chlorination packages, instrument/utility air compressors and dryer packages, nitrogen generation packages, water makers, sewage treatment packages, flare packages, offshore pedestal cranes (API 2C), EOT cranes, jib cranes, hoists, pig launchers, gas turbines, and steam turbines.
- Thorough knowledge of international codes and standards.
- Experience with drilling equipment is considered a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively interact across multiple disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and motivate others toward continuous improvement.
