Overall purpose of role
The 3D System Administrator is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, security, and optimization of the 3D design environment — a critical component in delivering successful engineering and design projects. This role involves technical management, user support, system configuration, vendor coordination, and compliance oversight. The administrator ensures system availability, data integrity, and user satisfaction while aligning with organizational standards and licensing requirements.
Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities
System Installation and Configuration
- Install, configure, and set up the 3D software suite according to project and organizational requirements.
- Perform regular updates, patches, and upgrades to maintain system efficiency and compatibility.
System Maintenance and Optimization
- Monitor system performance and proactively identify and resolve issues such as bugs or slowdowns.
- Optimize configurations and system settings to maximize performance and minimize downtime.
User Support and Training
- Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting for 3D software users.
- Conduct training sessions and develop user guides or tutorials to enhance user proficiency.
Data Management and Security
- Maintain data integrity within the 3D environment, ensuring proper storage, access, and backups.
- Implement access controls and security protocols to protect sensitive project information.
Backups and Disaster Recovery
- Schedule and execute regular data backups and verify their reliability.
- Develop and test disaster recovery plans to ensure quick restoration in case of system failure.
Customization and Integration
- Collaborate with project teams to tailor the 3D system to specific project needs and workflows.
- Integrate the 3D system with other organizational tools (e.g., ERP, CAD, document management).
Licensing and Compliance
- Manage and track all software licenses, ensuring compliance with vendor terms and organizational policies.
- Allocate and monitor license usage to meet project demands efficiently.
Vendor Coordination
- Liaise with software vendors for technical support, feature enhancements, and issue resolution.
- Coordinate with vendors to ensure timely delivery of patches, updates, and technical solutions.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain up-to-date documentation on configurations, procedures, troubleshooting steps, and user guidelines.
- Regularly review and update documentation to reflect system or workflow changes.
Cross-Department Collaboration
- Partner with engineering, IT, and project teams to ensure seamless integration of the 3D system into overall workflows.
- Provide technical input for new projects and system improvement initiatives.
