Overall purpose of role

Carry out engineering design and prepare drawings while ensuring compliance with customer technical specifications, company standards, and the requirements of the production and user departments. Plan, distribute, monitor, and check work activities related to the development of electrical, instrumentation, and telecom drawings and documents. Oversee project activities and ensure timely delivery of accurate design deliverables.

Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities

  • Develop designs including equipment layouts, EIT support drawings, single line diagrams (SLDs), schematics, termination drawings, hook-ups, 3D models, and lists with guidance from the Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, or Lead Designer.
  • Plan, schedule, and monitor team activities in coordination with the Senior Engineer or Lead Designer.
  • Participate in bid engineering, including estimation of man-hours and materials.
  • Distribute, monitor, and check the work of the assigned team, ensuring overall completeness, safety, accessibility, materials handling, maintenance, and operability.
  • Perform inter-disciplinary checks and ensure design deliverables, including material requisitions (MRs), are submitted in accordance with project schedules.
  • Prepare material take-offs (MTOs), material requisitions, and manage material allocation and reconciliation.
  • Review and comment on vendor drawings, incorporate vendor data into project documents, and perform site surveys as necessary.
  • Take responsibility for change management and risk identification throughout project execution.
  • Ensure all work complies with project specifications, company procedures, and relevant standards.
  • Propose design improvements and capture lessons learned for continuous improvement.
  • Support the Lead/Senior Engineer or Lead Designer in achieving departmental key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Act as a document checker, identify and manage software requirements, and supervise project closeout activities including as-built documentation.
  • Coordinate project activities across multiple office locations and supervise large teams of drafters and designers.
  • Determine training needs, plan staff development, and mentor draftsmen.
  • Perform 3D modeling and conduct periodic model reviews to ensure completeness and quality.
  • Ensure full compliance with HSES and information security policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to bids and proposals as required.

Attainment

  • Minimum education: Diploma or ITI in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Minimum experience: 8 to 14 years in offshore, onshore, or drilling rigs within the design or construction industry.
  • Proficient in PDMS, Aveva or equivalent software, AutoCAD, and skilled in S3D/E3D.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively across multiple disciplines.
  • Well-versed in electrical and instrumentation standards and materials.
  • Possesses site experience and site deputation, including experience with Aramco and CRPO projects.
