Overall purpose of role

Plan, distribute, monitor, and review activities for the development of design and construction drawings for structural and outfitting works, including foundations, platforms, helidecks, and living quarters. Supervise large teams of draftsmen and designers across multiple projects, preparing detailed structural drawings and material take-offs based on basic design drawings and sketches provided by designers and engineers. Ensure all deliverables comply with customer technical specifications, company standards, production requirements, and applicable statutory regulations. Maintain high technical quality in drafting with consistent presentation to ensure clarity and ease of construction.

Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities

  • Act as checker for design-related deliverables.
  • Work on 3D models and 2D packages following drafting standards, ensuring clarity, quality, and completeness of details. Perform periodic overall model reviews to maintain content level and participate in 3D model reviews as required.
  • Review deliverables for completeness, general safety, access, adherence to materials handling schemes, maintenance, and operability.
  • Collaborate with the 3D CAD Coordinator to ensure proper project closeout upon completion.
  • Prepare material take-offs.
  • Perform design functions at all previous levels as needed.
  • Ensure interdisciplinary and management review, checking, and approval of design deliverables.
  • Establish and update company standards in coordination with Engineering.
  • Review and revise discipline design guidelines and standards.
  • Plan and schedule team activities.
  • Work with clients on conceptual design development.
  • Estimate drawing quantities for design deliverables and develop budget requirements including time and materials.
  • Monitor team performance and budget compliance, tracking drawing and material production rates.
  • Propose design improvements and document lessons learned.
  • Coordinate with IT to support computer software setup and development.
  • Develop Engineering Document Register and maintain schedule deliverables according to the register, ABS registers, and subcontract deliverables.
  • Select and modify corporate standard details to meet project-specific requirements.
  • Review applicable codes, standards, and vendor requirements.
  • Review and comment on vendor drawings.
  • Analyze options to optimize costs and scheduling.
  • Supervise project closeout activities, including as-built documentation, ensuring compliance with client and company requirements.
  • Determine and plan training and development for team personnel.
  • Coordinate project activities across multiple office locations and provide guidance to the design team.
  • Possess knowledge of safety requirements for field assignments.
  • Support bids and proposals. Assist the lead designer in achieving department key performance indicators.
  • Ensure compliance with HSES policies and procedures as well as all applicable information security policies.

Attainment

  • Minimum education: ITI Draftsmanship or Diploma in any engineering discipline, preferably Civil.
  • Minimum experience: 8 to 14 years in offshore, onshore, oil and gas facilities, or drilling rigs design and construction industry.
  • Experience with AutoCAD for 2D drafting and/or ShipConstructor or AVEVA Marine for 3D hull modeling, and/or PDMS or TEKLA for 3D outfitting and structural modeling, or equivalent software.
  • Experience with plate and profile nesting as well as CNC programming is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across multiple disciplines.
