Overall purpose of role
Plan, distribute, monitor, and review work activities for the development of design and construction drawings for structural and outfitting works, including foundations, platforms, helidecks, and living quarters. Supervise larger teams of draftsmen and designers across multiple projects, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of high-quality design outputs.
Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities
- Act as checker for design-related deliverables, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and completeness.
- Develop and maintain 3D models and/or 2D drawing packages following drafting standards.
- Conduct periodic overall model reviews and participate in 3D model review meetings as required.
- Review designs for completeness, safety, accessibility, materials handling, maintenance, and operability.
- Collaborate with the 3D CAD Coordinator to ensure proper project closeout upon completion.
- Prepare Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and estimate drawing quantities for deliverables.
- Perform design functions at previous levels as needed.
- Ensure interdisciplinary and management review, checking, and approval of design deliverables.
- Establish and maintain company design standards in conjunction with the Engineering department.
- Review and update discipline-specific design guidelines and standards.
- Plan, schedule, and monitor team activities to ensure timely and efficient delivery.
- Work with clients on conceptual design and provide technical inputs as required.
- Develop project budget requirements, including time and materials.
- Monitor team performance and budget compliance, including drawing and material quantity production rates.
- Recommend design improvements and document lessons learned for future projects.
- Coordinate with IT for software setup and development to support design activities.
- Develop Engineering Document Registers (EDR) and maintain schedule deliverables in line with EDR, ABS registers, and subcontractor deliverables.
- Select and modify corporate standard details to meet project-specific requirements.
- Gather and review applicable codes, standards, and vendor requirements, and review vendor drawings.
- Analyze design options to optimize cost, efficiency, and scheduling.
Attainment
Education: ITI Draftsmanship or Diploma in any Engineering discipline, preferably Civil.
Experience: 8–14 years in offshore/onshore projects, oil and gas facilities, or drilling rigs within design and construction environments.
Technical Skills: Proficient in AutoCAD for 2D drafting and/or 3D modeling using ShipConstructor, AVEVA Marine (Hull), PDMS, TEKLA, or equivalent software for outfitting and structural modeling.
