Senior Designer – Structural

Overall purpose of role

Responsible for planning, distributing, monitoring, and checking design and construction drawing activities for structural and outfitting works such as foundations, platforms, helidecks, and living quarters. Oversees larger teams of draftsmen and designers while managing multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.

Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities

• Act as a checker for design-related deliverables.
• Work on 3D models and/or 2D packages following drafting standards, ensuring clarity, quality, and completeness of details.
• Perform periodic overall model reviews to ensure adequate content levels; participate in 3D model reviews as required.
• Review designs for overall completeness, safety, accessibility, material handling compliance, maintenance, and operability.
• Coordinate with the 3D CAD Coordinator to ensure proper project closeout upon completion.
• Prepare Material Take-Offs (MTOs).
• Perform designer functions as required from previous levels.
• Ensure interdisciplinary and management review, checking, and approval of design deliverables.
• Establish company standards in coordination with the engineering department.
• Review and update discipline-specific design guidelines and standards.
• Plan and schedule team activities effectively.
• Collaborate with clients on conceptual design development.
• Estimate drawing quantities required for design deliverables.
• Develop budget requirements including time and material estimates.
• Monitor team performance and ensure compliance with budget and productivity targets (e.g., drawing and material quantity production rates).
• Propose design improvements and apply lessons learned.
• Coordinate with the IT department for software setup and configuration.
• Develop and maintain Engineering Document Registers (EDR), ABS registers, and subcontract deliverables.
• Select and customize corporate standard details to meet specific project requirements.
• Gather and review relevant codes, standards, and vendor requirements.
• Review and provide comments on vendor drawings.
• Analyze design options to optimize project cost and scheduling.

Attainment

• Minimum Education: ITI in Draftsmanship or Diploma in any Engineering discipline, preferably Civil.
• Minimum Experience: 8–14 years in offshore, onshore, oil and gas facilities, or drilling rig design and construction.
• Software Experience: Proficient in AutoCAD for 2D drafting and/or Ship Constructor or AVEVA Marine for 3D hull modeling, and PDMS, TEKLA, or equivalent for 3D outfitting and structural modeling.
