Overall purpose of role
Carry out assigned engineering activities to ensure design deliverables are completed within the approved budget and schedule, demonstrating a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental responsibility. Ensure all deliverables meet contractual requirements, including preparation of drawings, material specifications, data sheets, and technical bid evaluations. Coordinate with other disciplines, departments, and clients as necessary while adhering to quality system procedures. Take responsibility for executing and controlling tasks assigned by the Lead Engineer or Discipline Manager, including reporting, monitoring, and controlling job progress, and mentoring junior engineers.
Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities
- Responsible for managing the Electrical and/or Instrumentation discipline in the assigned project, coordinating with internal departments, clients, and inspection agencies as directed by the Lead Engineer. Oversee activity planning, work assignment, scheduling, and monitoring for self and the assigned team.
- Prepare design basis documents, project-specific specifications, and datasheets for EPC and other projects involving basic and detailed engineering, feasibility studies, analyses, calculations, and tender document preparation. Report daily project activities to the Lead Engineer or Assistant Manager and ensure accuracy of design deliverables for self and team.
- Prepare various engineering deliverables including single line diagrams (SLDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), block diagrams, schematics, sizing calculations and analyses, datasheets, equipment specifications, cause and effect diagrams, hook-ups, schedules, control philosophies, shutdown philosophies, layouts, and related documents as assigned by the Lead Engineer.
- Participate in interdisciplinary checks and coordination. Manage material engineering tasks such as preparing purchase specifications and requisitions, conducting technical bid evaluations, and reviewing vendor documents. Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, regulations, procedures, and contractual requirements.
- Attend project and engineering review meetings, process and safety workshops, site surveys, factory acceptance tests (FATs), and inspections as instructed. Provide input and support to operations, commissioning, and completions teams. Manage change control and risk identification for assigned activities. Identify training needs for team members and recommend design improvements and lessons learned.
- Support the professional development of team members by providing training and mentoring to graduate engineers. Assist the Discipline Manager or Lead Engineer in achieving departmental key performance indicators (KPIs). Ensure compliance with HSES policies, procedures, and all applicable information security policies.
Attainment
- Minimum education: B.E., B.Tech., or B.S. in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering.
- Minimum experience: 6 to 10 years in offshore and onshore oil and gas facilities with major EPC contractors and/or consultants.
- Familiar with engineering standards such as IEC, ISA, API, NFPA, IEEE, and client standards including SHELL, ARAMCO, and MOBIL.
- Knowledgeable of classification society rules such as ABS, DNV, and GL.
- Hands-on experience with software tools like ETAP, InstruCalc, and InTools.
- Experienced in preparing specifications, conducting technical evaluations, and reviewing vendor documentation.
- Possesses site deputation experience and design experience in both offshore and onshore fields.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
