Overall purpose of role

Lead a team of engineers and designers in executing basic and detailed engineering, providing essential technical information for costing and procurement in accordance with tender specifications, quality requirements, budgeted man-hours, and project schedules. Serve as the lead on projects as assigned by the discipline manager and act as the subject matter expert for pipeline and subsea disciplines. As a key member of the Lamprell Engineering Team, report to Lead Engineers and the Pipeline and Subsea Manager, assisting the Pipeline Manager in managing discipline activities and team development.

Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities

  • Lead a team of engineers and designers to deliver engineering deliverables on time and to the expected quality, ensuring accuracy and compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) responsibilities. Represent Lamprell’s interests when interacting with customers, suppliers, and other external agencies.
  • Identify and understand client technical engineering requirements to ensure the discipline meets its contractual obligations. Review basic designs from third parties for Engineering, Procurement, and Construction projects to verify they meet customer performance criteria. Support projects and production by delivering timely, high-quality engineering outputs that consider construction methods and efficiency. Manage subcontractors when engineering activities are outsourced and coordinate with project engineering managers and planning departments on schedule-related matters.
  • Support the Project Management team on all technical matters related to pipeline and subsea disciplines, liaising with clients, vendors, consultants, and other third parties. Collaborate with Estimation and Supply Chain Management on engineering bid deliverables, material take-offs (MTO), requests for quotation (RFQ), scopes of work (SOW), evaluation criteria, and the number of offers to evaluate, ensuring competitive advantage and avoiding budget or schedule overruns during bid engineering.
  • Prepare bid estimate bases aligned with bidding and estimation strategies. Manage change effectively by overseeing change management and risk identification. Ensure discipline outputs meet corporate and client quality requirements. Contribute to employee professional development through training and mentoring, and develop or review engineering discipline procedures as part of the Lamprell Group Management System (LGMS).

Attainment

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering; a Master’s degree in Subsea or Ocean Engineering is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably with consultancy organizations or EPC contractors, including at least 8 years within offshore oil and gas, working for offshore engineering consultants or EPCI contractors.
  • Experienced with subsea pipeline software such as DNV Suite, Stablelines, FATFREE, CAESAR, and Autopipe Stress Analysis.
  • Familiar with international codes and standards including API and DNV, as well as oil and gas company standards such as Saudi Aramco, ADNOC, SHELL DEPs, and BP guidelines.
  • Proficient in software tools like CAESAR, DNV software, Mathcad, SAGE, AGA, and ABAQUS.
  • Skilled in design calculations and studies for subsea pipelines, including on-bottom stability assessment, wall thickness calculation, pipeline thermal expansion, and crossing analysis.
  • Experienced in subsea cable design calculations and studies such as route selection and optimization, crossing design, on-bottom stability analysis, and allowable free span assessment.
