Overall purpose of role
Responsible for all onshore preparatory work related to Piping, Mechanical, Structural, and E&I Hook-up, including the timely production and quality of work packs, identification and tracking of required materials and equipment, and coordination through to offshore execution and handover for the assigned work scope or campaign.
Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities
- Contribute significantly to strategy development for bid work and active offshore projects, as required.
- Responsible for providing input into the Hook-up Schedule and maintaining ownership of the schedule.
- Manage all hook-up engineering and preparatory activities for the assigned work scope or campaign.
- Provide effective leadership and support to discipline Lead Hook-up Engineers both onshore and during offshore execution.
- Resolve construction, engineering, and technical issues as they arise.
- Ensure readiness for the respective discipline by preparing detailed execution plans, hook-up schedules, close-out reports, and documenting all lessons learned.
- Coordinate with relevant departments, including Yard, Production, Engineering, Technical, and Completions.
- Prepare hook-up crew lists and ensure POB (Personnel on Board) aligns with estimated man-hours as outlined in task sheets and work packs.
- Identify tools, equipment, consumables, materials (including rentals), and labor required for offshore hook-up execution during the preparation phase.
- Determine HUC (Hook-up and Commissioning) vessel requirements and oversee vessel selection.
- Prepare hook-up vessel cargo general arrangement layout drawings.
- Identify requirements for external specialists, including subcontractors and vendors.
- Prepare as-built completion progress reports and status updates.
- Monitor offshore progress to ensure alignment with the schedule.
- Oversee NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) and QA/QC inspection requirements.
- Ensure training requirements are met prior to offshore mobilization.
- Approve timesheets for offshore crew members reporting directly to you at the offshore work site.
- Prepare and finalize all method statements and procedures required for the offshore campaign at least three months prior to mobilization.
- Ensure all structures are thoroughly verified before sail-away, identifying any changes to the work scope and their impact on hook-up requirements.
- Prepare customs invoice packing lists and all relevant documentation for customs clearance.
- Compile hook-up close-out reports and document lessons learned.
Attainment
- Strong and proven personal commitment to safety.
- Recent or current experience on Saudi Aramco LTA projects with a main contractor.
- Over 10 years of offshore oil and gas experience in Piping and Mechanical disciplines, with a clear career progression into supervisory roles and substantial offshore hook-up exposure.
- Experience in production and yard operations is required.
- Minimum of a vocational diploma (HNC/ONC) or equivalent practical experience demonstrating strong technical capability.
- Extensive offshore experience with a solid track record.
- Proven ability to lead a team of Hook-up and Workpack Engineers.
- Strong cultural awareness and experience managing multi-cultural teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate requirements and expectations both verbally and in writing.
