As Lamprell marks its 50th anniversary, it is an opportunity to reflect on a journey defined by steady growth, resilience and a consistent focus on delivery. What began as a small family business has evolved into a leading provider of engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) services to the global energy sector.
Lamprell’s story began in 1976, when Steven Lamprell arrived in Dubai to establish a business in what was then a rapidly developing region. Working with limited resources, the early years were characterised by hands-on effort, adaptability and a willingness to take on a wide range of work, from offshore support services to mechanical repairs and small-scale fabrication. Operations were modest, run from basic office spaces and a small yard, but the foundations were built on hard work, reliability and a commitment to doing the job properly. In the early years, Steven Lamprell, alongside his wife Gillie and his three brothers Alan, Bob and Tim, all played active roles in the business, helping to shape the strong, family-driven culture that continues to define Lamprell today.

As demand grew, so did the business. Lamprell expanded its facilities and workforce, moving from its initial base in Dubai to larger yards in Sharjah and later to purpose-built facilities in Jebel Ali and Hamriyah. With each step, the company developed greater technical capability and capacity, taking on larger and more complex projects while maintaining a focus on safety, quality and schedule discipline.

Over time, Lamprell established itself as a trusted contractor in offshore oil and gas, delivering rig construction, refurbishment and large-scale EPCI projects. The business continued to evolve in line with industry needs, entering the offshore wind market in 2007 and, more recently, expanding its onshore EPC capabilities. This diversification reflects a consistent approach, adapting to changing market conditions while building on core strengths in engineering and project execution.
Today, Lamprell is a business with real depth and capability. From complex offshore structures and subsea infrastructure to offshore wind foundations and onshore processing facilities, the company delivers projects across multiple energy sectors. Central to this is a workforce with the experience and discipline to execute safely and reliably, and long-standing relationships with clients built on trust and performance.
For our clients, this 50-year history represents more than longevity. It reflects a track record of consistent delivery, the ability to scale and adapt, and a partner that understands the importance of getting projects right. These qualities have underpinned Lamprell’s reputation and continue to shape how we work today.
Lamprell’s success over the past five decades has been built on the strength and loyalty of its people. Across our yards, offices and project sites, it is the experience, commitment and professionalism of our workforce that underpin consistent delivery. This is reflected in the tenure of our teams, with 35 per cent of our workforce having been with Lamprell for more than ten years, including 15 per cent with over fifteen years of service. This level of retention speaks to a culture that supports long-term career development, values experience, as well as a strong sense of ownership and pride in the work we deliver.
Lamprell’s culture has long been shaped by connection, inclusion and shared experience. What began in the early years as a visible, family-led culture, with social life and work often closely intertwined, has grown into a broader and more structured environment that continues to bring people together across the business. Sport and social activities have played a central role in bringing people together across the business, building camaraderie across teams and nationalities. This has been reinforced by cultural events, creative initiatives and community activities, from Lamprell’s Got Talent to volunteering and environmental programmes, helping create a strong sense of connection and shared identity.

Looking ahead, Lamprell is well-positioned to build on its strong foundations as part of the Algihaz Holding group, a Saudi Arabia-based diversified investment firm that has majority ownership of the company. Being part of Algihaz provides access to long-term capital, regional market insight and a broader partnership network through its sister companies. Through this platform, the company continues to expand its integrated delivery model, working closely with Algihaz Marine Contractors and Enshore Subsea to offer more complete engineering, procurement, construction and installation solutions to clients.
At the same time, Lamprell is strengthening its execution through a focused digital transformation agenda, leveraging enterprise reinvention strategies and AI-enabled technologies to enhance operational visibility, improve project control and drive more efficient, predictable delivery across its facilities and projects.
As we mark this milestone, we would like to thank our clients and partners for their continued trust and collaboration. We look forward to building on these relationships in the years ahead.
