Since opening in January 2025, Lamprell’s Chennai office has grown into an important centre of engineering excellence, supporting projects and business functions across the company’s global operations. With its highly skilled workforce, the office continues to play a key role in strengthening Lamprell’s ability to deliver complex projects efficiently while supporting long-term business growth.
Rapid growth and expanding capabilities
The Chennai office has experienced significant growth over the past 18 months, expanding from an initial team of 35 employees to almost 250 today. Alongside this growth, the office has continued to broaden its capabilities, establishing dedicated teams across engineering, project controls, supply chain management, IT, finance, human resources and quality assurance.
Today, Chennai operates as an integrated extension of Lamprell’s wider business, with teams working seamlessly alongside colleagues in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This collaborative approach enables efficient sharing of work across locations while maintaining consistent standards, supporting both operational flexibility and project delivery.

Supporting projects across the business
Engineering teams in Chennai now contribute to almost every major project and proposal across Lamprell’s portfolio, including offshore EPCI, renewables, onshore EPC, rig refurbishment and bid support activities. Across all business lines, the team in Chennai supported 29 projects, both major and minor, and 27 bids in the year 2025. On the current offshore EPCI projects alone, approximately 40% of the engineering workshare is being delivered from Chennai, with around 300,000 engineering man-hours expected to be executed during 2026.
Commenting on the office’s development, Engineering Director and India Country Manager Kannan Iyer said: “The Chennai office has become a fully integrated part of Lamprell’s global delivery model. Our teams work closely with colleagues across the business every day, combining technical expertise, collaboration and shared processes to support successful project execution.”
As Lamprell continues to expand its Onshore EPC activities, the Chennai office is also playing an increasingly important role in supporting this growing business line. During the quarter, the Onshore EPC leadership team visited the office to share updates on strategy, current projects and future opportunities, reinforcing the importance of close collaboration across global engineering teams.
Investing in people, technology and quality
Alongside operational growth, considerable emphasis has been placed on developing people and maintaining high standards. Lamprell India recently achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification, demonstrating the strength of its quality management systems and reinforcing the disciplined approach embedded across the organisation from an early stage. The company also achieved ISO 27001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications, reflecting its commitment to the highest standards of information security, environmental stewardship, and occupational health and safety.
The office is equally committed to developing future talent through its structured Graduate Engineering Training Programme. Graduate engineers receive technical training, mentoring and hands-on experience while contributing to live projects, helping to build the next generation of engineering professionals and supporting Lamprell’s long-term capability strategy.
Building a strong workplace culture
As the office has grown, equal attention has been given to creating an engaging and inclusive workplace. Regular Town Halls, cultural celebrations, national festivals, workplace wellbeing initiatives and sporting events, including the recent Lamprell India Cricket Tournament, continue to strengthen collaboration and reinforce Lamprell’s people-focused culture. Today, the Chennai office employs 44 women, representing 17% of its workforce, reflecting the company’s commitment to building a more diverse team. Kannan added: “While our office has grown rapidly, maintaining a collaborative culture has remained a priority. We have built a team that works together exceptionally well, and that culture is fundamental to the way we deliver projects and continue developing our capabilities.”
Looking ahead
With continued investment in engineering capability, growing project involvement and plans to further strengthen specialist engineering skills, fabrication engineering and 3D modelling teams, Chennai is well positioned to support Lamprell’s future growth. Going forward, the target is to get more than 50% of the engineering scope executed from Chennai, with a vertical split for all new major projects. As the office continues to evolve, it will remain a key contributor to the company’s global delivery model, helping to enhance project execution, build technical capability and support clients across an increasingly diverse portfolio of energy projects.
