Future development through intern and apprentice programmes

At Lamprell, developing talent for the future is a long-term commitment. Our intern and apprentice programmes are designed to build capability over time, recognising that early-career professionals join the business with limited practical experience and require structured training, guidance and hands-on support from experienced teams. Across our UAE, Saudi Arabia and India operational bases, these programmes focus on knowledge transfer, mentorship and exposure to real project environments, ensuring skills are developed sustainably and in line with Lamprell’s long-term workforce strategy.

Saudi Internship Training Programme (SITP) – KSA and UAE

The Saudi Internship Training Programme (SITP) is a structured development initiative for Saudi national interns, supporting the Kingdom’s IKTVA objectives and reflecting Lamprell’s commitment to developing local capability.

Initiated by our key client, Aramco, with whom we have a long-term partnership, the programme employs interns for awarded projects and mobilises them for both in-Kingdom (IK) and out-of-Kingdom (OOK) activities throughout the project lifecycle, from fabrication through installation and commissioning.

Each intern follows a defined job description and training plan overseen by an assigned Mentor, with additional support from a Guide or Buddy. Training plans include functional rotations, performance objectives and formal assessments, with cross-department exposure provided where relevant.

Training spans through engineering, supply chain management, production, quality, electrical and mechanical disciplines, ensuring development remains closely aligned with project execution needs. The programme supports Lamprell’s workforce development objectives by building Saudi national capability, strengthening project delivery teams, and developing a sustainable local talent pipeline across the full project lifecycle.

Graduate Engineering Training Programme – Chennai, India

The Graduate Engineering Training (GET) Programme was launched at Lamprell’s Chennai office in December 2025 and is a structured, year-long programme designed to develop graduate engineers through hands-on project exposure and guided technical development.

Following a three-month orientation period, graduates contribute to live projects while continuing structured technical development. Each trainee is supported by a discipline-specific mentor, with discipline managers overseeing technical progression.

The programme includes technical and functional training, mentorship on safety, compliance and soft skills, rotational learning and periodic performance reviews. Training is office-based and focused on design engineering disciplines, reflecting the Chennai office’s core role. The GET programme supports long-term capability building and succession planning through structured knowledge transfer aligned to business needs.

UAE Apprentice Programme – Hamriyah yard

Lamprell’s UAE Apprentice Programme has been operating for over a decade, with a refreshed structure introduced in 2025. The two-year programme develops trade apprentices into fully qualified in-house professionals, supported by structured training and on-the-job experience.

Training currently focuses on welding and fabrication, with planned expansion into electrical and instrumentation (E&I) and coating applications. The most recent intake followed a competitive selection process conducted in India, with nearly 20 apprentices selected from more than 100 applicants.

All apprentices are based at Lamprell’s Hamriyah yard and complete a formal induction programme before entering structured technical training.

To further enhance development, Lamprell’s Assessment and Training Centre installed the Lincoln Electric VRTEX virtual welding simulator at the facility. The simulator provides immersive, data-driven training with real-time visual and performance feedback.

Apprentice welders now complete simulator-based training before progressing to live welding stations, improving efficiency, reducing material waste, enhancing safety, and supporting Lamprell’s sustainability objectives. This initiative reflects Lamprell’s commitment to innovation in workforce development.

Corporate office internship programme – UAE

In addition to the structured regional programmes, Lamprell also hosted 19 office-based interns during 2025, supporting a range of corporate and operational functions across the business. These interns were placed within Asset Management, Business Development, Digital Transformation, Finance, HSES, Production, Project Controls, and QA/QC, gaining exposure to professional working environments and day-to-day business operations. The placements provided early-career talent with practical experience across multiple disciplines, while allowing teams to contribute to skills development through mentoring, guidance and hands-on support.

Together, these programmes form a structured pipeline for developing technical capability, strengthening local talent and supporting safe, efficient project delivery across our regions. By investing in people, technology and long-term development, Lamprell continues to build the skills and leadership needed to support future growth.
