LT2023 Lamprell launches renewables serial production line

Lamprelltimes 2023 edition, published December 2023
New asset investment allows for serial fabrication of offshore wind products

Lamprell entered the offshore wind market in 2007 and has since delivered six multi-purpose wind turbine jackup vessels and hundreds of jackets, piles, suction buckets and transition pieces for several UK offshore wind farms. These units have been delivered from our world-class facilities in the United Arab Emirates.

With exponential growth in the offshore wind sector expected to continue for the foreseeable future, in 2022, the company invested in a state-of-the-art automated production line that is being used for serial fabrication of offshore wind substructures.

A game changer for Lamprell

Lamprell’s state-of-the-art renewables production line, which was commissioned in 2023, has the ability to construct transition pieces, monopiles, jackets and floating wind components for renewables projects.

Thanks to the addition of the production line, this strategic investment in automated high-capacity can rolling, welding, milling, and non-destructive testing will significantly expand our foundation production capacity. By broadening our capabilities to include serial manufacturing of wind turbine generator substructures, Lamprell can now supply and deliver these assets for fixed and floating foundation projects. This expansion significantly increases our client base and extends our reach in this addressable market beyond jacket-based foundations.

We are currently fabricating 62 transition pieces for our client Moray Offshore Windfarm (West) Limited using the production line.

Our blasting and painting facility, which forms part of the production line, houses sophisticated painting sheds which come with environmental controls, fume extraction and optimal illumination, so our skilled applicators can meticulously apply coating following international standards such as NORSOK M 501.
